I didn't know Riggle is a Marine. Cool.
It is truly amazing that Stewart was able to pull his head out of his keister long enough to allow this to be aired.
Summary for those of us with dial-up connections?
Why, you!! I oughtta . . . :D
I lived a few minutes from Berkeley for four years (I went to grad school there). I can only assume that it's worse now than it was then.
The "correspondent" (Riggle) dresses up like a hippie to interview a member of the city council (who is dressed like a hippie, but you get the impression he didn't dress up for a special occasion).
Riggle asks the councilman some questions and keeps getting answers like "the military is evil" and "war is unjust," etc. Each time, Riggle smiles and says he needs to get up for a second to get another bong hit ... then goes outside and screams, does pushups, and otherwise plays the pissed-off Marine.
Riggle, to be honest, was not the funny part. The councilman was hilarious. Pathetic, but hilarious.
While the story as a whole was one of the more entertaining clips I have viewed lately, I particularly found the final interview interesting with the comment made to the effect of;
"If only there was an organization sworn to protect that right to free speech . . . . "
I about lost my lunch after that comment.
Nice to see some sanity coming from a left oriented show.
Seems to me like a league of menopause fueled, ADD inflicted, out of this stratosphere wacko's have received far too much air time. Not to mention the berkeley city councils initial agreement with their insane, idiotic "policies".
There are few good things about Berkeley, California. The people who live there are typically not on that short list, with a tiny number of exceptions.
Hmmm . . . before I lived there (the east bay) for four years, I was neutral on hippies. Today, when I see, hear, or read about a hippie, I have the urge to start throwing punches (and I'm not an aggressive person). Perhaps my time in Hippie Central Command left me with some . . . opinions.
Who here remembers what Eric Carman does to hippies?

Riggle "If only there was an organization sworn to defend that free speech."
ROFL!
I went off on hippies and my dislike for them in my physical science class today. I think I may have slightly offended one my students who hails from Alaska. She says there are a lot of hippies in Alaska.
It arose during one of my stream of consciousness lectures. Today I was discussing sound waves, and a question arose about drum machines and why their sound is so different from a real drum (at least the more primitive versions), which led to my "when I was your age story" about late 1970s early 1980s synthetic music such as Kraftwerk. From there I somehow got onto how I believe that German workers are the only people who can multi-task more efficiently than someone who does each task sequentially. I made some smart alecky remarks about Germany in general, then got to how I am angry with Germany.
Reason: Birkenstocks are made in Germany. Hippies love Birkenstocks. Birkenstocks make hippies mobile so they can leave their homes where they can encounter and offend me.
