Either it's a mistake and only lasts until ATF comes to their senses... or maybe the stock's been pinned so short that only children could use it.
Either way, something don't smell quite right about this one...
Non rifled barrel that’s not a shot gun barrel?
Other than that they have me stumped on this one. Looks like a gunuine sbr to me
Between whatever this may end up being and the pistol braces out there they should just drop SBR from NFA.
Wouldn't touch one with a 26" pole.
One of the theories I've seen is that the binary trigger means that the gun is no longer an SBR, as a single trigger pull sends out more than one bullet, but it's not a machine gun either, as a single trigger manipulation does not send out more than a single bullet. Thus, it's not an SBR, nor a machine gun, but just a firearm. The selector switch give some credence to that idea, IMO, and allows for you to use it like a normal gun if you wanted. Either way, we'll see if this is truly ATF-proof soon enough, and there will still be the various state laws to skirt (e.g., in TX, SBRs were illegal under state law until a few years ago, but having a tax stamp was an affirmative defense).
This sure sounds like something that won't last long.
Said it on the other site, I'm guessing they made the barrel and upper receiver one piece or perm attached the barrel to the upper, bringing the "barrel" to a total length over 16".
Could be something crazy like a "barrel" is un-rifled and only as long as the chamber with a 10" "muzzle device" that has a rifled bore attached to it.
Kind of like a rifled choke tube.
Well, I'd like to know what NRS stands for... non-rifled-something? It doesn't appear that the US Code actually defines what "rifled" means. The definition in several dictionaries is pretty consistent:
1 : the act or process of making spiral grooves
2 : a system of spiral grooves in the surface of the bore of a gun causing a projectile when fired to rotate about its longer axis
On the other hand, it's unbelievable that nobody would have gone down this path before. Wouldn't it be a laugh if the ATF considered Glocks to be smoothbores? This seems very unlikely, though, since the purpose of rifling is clearly to impart a spin onto the projectile.
The 3 position safety, implying their binary trigger, is also interesting. Well, time will tell!
BTW, barrel length is defined by the ATF to be the distance from the breech face or closed bolt to the end of the barrel (or permanently attached muzzle device), so it can't be just treating the upper and barrel as a single part.

Did anyone bother to read where they state that it has already been approved by Chief of the Firearms Technology Division?
