I'm looking to purchase some KAC back-up sights. I'm having trouble deciding on the rear sight though.
I'd prefer to have the normal non-micro version for the front sight out of preference.
Is there any real difference betweeen the micro and standard 200-600m rear sights?
I've heard the micro is MIM, and the standard is alloy?
Durability same?

Micro for sure. Seems like the only real difference in the lower profile windage adjustment (been a while since I've compared side-to-side, sold all my standard for micros). I don't know about you but I don't really dial windage with my rear sight, ever, on an AR.
Echo front sight. I also like the standard over the micro.
Durability I can't see being an issue unless you have a habit of torquing your irons sideways while in the up position. I'm not even sure how you'd manage that unless you were trying. I've never had any issues with my KAC's in any situation, from concrete bench to run and gun down in the dirt.

Based on my experience with both, I'd strongly recommend the full size. I had a micro where the windage knob would click when you flipped the sight up and down. It wasn't consistent either. In other words, sometimes it would move two clicks when lowering the sight, but not click back when you raised the sight. See how this can be an issue? I've heard of others having the same issue. I sent the sight back to KAC. Their response was to send me a full-size.

My 600M Micro's elevation adjustment stalk got loose while shooting and the peep sight portion of the stalk dropped off, never to be found again. I haven't bought a Micro since, but I keep buying the old style 600M BUIS :p

KAC sent me a replacement, but shipped via Fedex that required a signature. I couldn't be home to sign for it, and one day left work early to come home to wait for the Fedex guy, only to find he had got here earlier than the last two times. I was furious and called and got a refund :shout:
Micro! Buying these feels like a kick in the nuts but they're definitely worth it.

Interesting, didn't realize there was that much difference between the two. While using the micros, I never wanted a larger knob...the smaller one worked just fine with my clumsy hands.Quote:

Very big Micro whore here....munch is right about it being like a punch to the nuts when stomaching the sticker of them new, but they are a touch above all the rest for sure in my book. The KAC micro front sight is a straight piece of art:)
Nobody except me and Belmont seem to love the Micro 300m rear.
I like the front Micro too, much easier to use than the old :)

I own both but the Micro version is much nicer IMHO. The larger version isn't necessary.
Since voting with hard earned dollars tells more about actual opinion, I'll add my $190.02 worth...
I went with the old style 600m. The Micro is nice, but for my money I'd rather have the full size part than the Micro.
KAC designed the 300m and 600m sights right the first time around with maximum durability and functionality in mind, the Micro was an afterthought it seems.
My vote is for the full sized 600m :dance3:
ETA: This is not to imply that the Micro is inferior, or that it doesn't work, I just like and prefer the full size.

Hey Munch, what rail is that on your gun and is a 16" bbl? Looks good.

Not Munch, but it looks like a DD M4V5 (16" bbl, 12.0 Omega X rail) to me. Other accessories include a Magpul AFG foregrip, Magpul MOE stock, Hogue pistol grip, Surefire G2X in a Gear Sector mount, and an Aimpoint Comp M or M2 in a QRP mount.Quote:

Some could even make the case that the newer SS bases are more durable than the old aluminum ones, and imho the micros are indeed more durable given they are built using KAC's latest mfg'ing processes and labor. The U.S. Marines have been running micros now for sometime with no problems whatsoever.....nuff said for me:)

I took a good look at the old 600M and Micro 600M, the sight stalk appears to be the same. That the Micro 600M's sight stalk fell off was a fluke, it could have happened to the full sized, older 600M as well, so I don't fault the Micro 600M for its rare failing.
I have several Troy front and rear sights, I always find myself wanting and buying KAC. They're just lower profile and smaller, which I like :)

Definitely agree on the LMT fixed options, they're definitely solid, but as you say, KAC for when you mean bi'dness.
I am currently using the micro front and full size 200-600m rear- my objective was to keep the charging handle side of my carbine clean, and the standard size KAC does this, yet it gives me the full size windage knob on the opposite side- I love the set up- just my 2 cents.

But I do believe Troy builds theirs following a different philosophy, they are very robust, almost as strong as non-folding sights, whereas KAC's are staying true to the backup part of the BUIS, in that they don't need to be full sized since they get used only in rare occasions. I picked up the standard m4 flip up front in taupe, and decided to try the micro 200-600m.
Part of me thinks I should of just bought an Aimpoint T1/H1, with the amount I paid.

Apologies about bumping a three year old thread, but it seemed relevant enough to include this content rather than starting an entirely new thread.
I'm considering a full size/standard rear sight to use with some regularity on my precision AR, but have questions of fit.
I'll be putting the rear sight underneath a Primary Arms 4-14x44mm scope on a Bobro QD mount (mount height: 1.420 from top of 1913 to tube center).
The two sights look to be the same height folded, so it *should* work, but I wanted to double check here. I'm pretty ignorant about all this, so there may be something obvious I'm missing.
I have KAC standard and Micro 300M rears and they will both clear any scope I've seen. The windage knob is far enough off centerline to not be a problem.
