A little late to the party.... but thanks for writing up that comp. It wasn't boring at all. :) Not if your a flashlight bug.
Is it common to "build" a Surefire out of aftermarket components? I've always wanted somethign like the 952V. I know it's heavy as a tank, but I don't mind. Just on the high side $$ wise.
So I'm in the market for a new WML. I do have Streamlights - a few TRL-1HL's, but I"m a little concerned about the sturdiness of the mount. It seems that the materials and mounting system could be busted with a hard enough whack against a door frame or concrete. That said, I still like the light - especially the toggle switch. I've also have a couple of PowerTac WML's mounted to weapons. Another product made in China, but I can attest to the durability. The stateside company does own their own factory. Both have tape switches, which I still honestly can't decide if I like or not. I'd prefer not to use them, but as I like to hold the weapon in a tight posture, support hand closer towards the lower than the muzzle, I found the tape almost necessary.
But I'm looking for some other options closer to the Surefire style light, but I don't want a polymer body and I would at least 600 lm.
Ideas?

Malkoff M61T head on MD2 body with Vltor mount. This set-up allows quick/easy tool-less attachment/detachment of the light and mount. Weight of light and mount = 8 ounces.
Nicely done!!
