FN's P-12 is essentially a modernized, gussied-up Defender/Winchester 1300. It does have a chrome-lined barrel, though.:

On the Net, the 1200 / 1300 get a bad rap for its aluminum receiver. But coming from the AR world, I understand how that works. Just like an AR, the 1300 has a rotating bolt with locking lugs that locks into a barrel extension. The receiver does not have to be steel, because it doesn't take any pressure. The AR receiver is also aluminum, and ARs generate way more PSI than do shotguns. The receiver just holds things together. Indeed the bolt and bolt carrier on the 1300 look like giant versions of my AR bolt and carrier.
I just ran some slugs through a Winny recently and I fell in love with them all over again. It is light but takes the recoil very well and is super smooth with the best trigger I have seen in a shotgun. The fast action thing actually feels very natural.
