Suppressors, even mini suppressors, reduce the velocity of the gasses to subsonic speeds which greatly reduces the concussion of the muzzle blast
Even my dumbest suppressor configuration - a 10.5" with OPS M4-S can (same OAL as a 13.7"/A2 SBR setup), the can is a definite improvement, but not ear safe.
Practically speaking, that setup exists to reduce concussion indoors even I have ear pro and stuff on - my 14th can lives on that 10.5" the rest of the time.
