Sounds like justification after the fact. For the ~40 years prior to Colt shipping F/A carriers in their semi-auto guns, I do not recall any problems with the semi-auto carrier (which went through several design changes), nor do I recall after-market companies trying to offer heavier carriers "to solve the problem". Folks only became interested in F/A carriers in the last few years, when Colt started shipping them in their S/A guns.
The best answer to why you should run a F/A carrier is, "because that is the way the gun was designed".
So...it's not due to the extra strength and durability?
:D
Updated again. Noveske contacted me and pointed out that their bolts are shot peened.
Hey I hoping that after the holidays I will be able to pick up my first AR this chart is a big help. Yes sad but true i don't an AR:(
I thought ADS was on the list?
Also according to CMMG some of the items that are listed as options are standard.
Where would a Sully SLR15 level 3 rifle fit in the mix. I am considering ordering one. Thanks for the help.
This is a good question. I have not seen where the manufacturer lists the following:
Barrel steel used.
Testing done on barrel.
Bolt steel used.
Testing done on Bolt.
M4 barrel extension.
M4 cuts on upper receiver.
With out the answers to the above question, it is hard to say for certain.
C4
I'm not sure who makes the barrels Sully uses. They are 1/9" chrome lined with a 5.56 chamber. When I attended his armorers course he said that all his internals except for the hammer and trigger are from an FN contractor. The hammer and trigger are Colt. He does use an M4 barrel extension and the receiver is cut for it.
Perhaps he'll weigh in here.
I know that's true of the Rock River Arms AR's, but the Bushmasters that have the 1/9 twist barrels handle 5.56x45mm ammunition just fine. I know my Bushmaster does. BTW for anyone wanting to know, the Bushmaster XM-15 E2S has M4 feedramps, but does not have an M16 bolt carrier and the gas keys are barely staked at all much less staked properly.
