I recall seeing numerous cases of 762x39 at $200-220 at the last Chantilly gun show.
Don't get me wrong- 300AAC looks like a promising round and I'd love to have one but you need massive economies of scale to make a round affordable to shoot. 762x39, 9mm, 5.56, 22LR, etc. It's a bit of a chicken vs egg paradox
Neat site. Basically it is telling me that 223 or 5.56mm I would buy begins at 31 cents a round. It also has 300 Whisper(R):

Instead of fighting over who can find the cheapest 7.62x39, why don't we concentrate on the 300AAC. Sounds like a great cartridge. Now if we can just find some affordable ammo, maybe some MFG's will start to produce some uppers (BCM).
Yugo Milsurp M67. $3.29/15rds.
I really love the idea of the 300BLK and will be building an upper in it....someday.....
To me the attraction is also a simple barrel replacement.
Same bolt, same mags without loss of capacity.
The down side is the ammo price.
But, for me it's something I would use with a short barrel in a HD scenario. I wouldn't be shooting paper with it on a regular basis.
