    M855A1 article

Here is a link to the the best open source article I've seen detailing the myriad problems associated with M855A1: http://www.gunsandammo.com/201...oldiers-and-marines/

That exposed steel tip turned me off from the start.

Politically correct Liberal insanity has even crept into our rifle round. Green ammunition, if anyone had proposed something like that to me ten years ago, I would have laughed in their face.

    Good article

The Army considers the M4 to have short comings as far as durability and reliability due to its direct impingement operating system, so their solution is a new round that is less accurate, has a higher chamber pressure and uses a new propellant that fouls more and is dirtier. Brilliant! I hope the Marines keep the MK262 or MK 318 SOST round.

Thanks Doc for the heads up.

Seems to me the MK318 is a completely acceptable round for combat, one would think the Army could figure this out also.

No dude is going to get shot in the chest at 300 yards and look down and say "What is that, a 3 MOA group?"

Great read with a lot of great points. I was shocked to learn the 5.5MOA standard

Awesome! 5 moa it looks like some training scars may be developing from our recent operations in big cities. It seems with the above standard they are failing to think about engaging any target much past 100 yards. It looks like someone will need to publish a new paper titled "Taking Back the 1/8th Mile".

Hell at 5.5 MOA, the paper will need to be titled "Taking back the 200 yd line." Ridiculous, with that kind of accuracy your talking about not being able to make a head hit past 100yds or so. Are we going to go back to breach loading rifles to get past the 100yd line?

There have been recent lots of M855 "greentip" that have shot 6 MOA. While most early lots of M855A1 have been shooting around 2 MOA, since the contract allows 5.5 MOA, eventually lots will be that bad...
