Absolute nonsense. No disrespect intended to your buddy, but in this particular matter he is completely wrong. There are very few applications for which an AR-15 fits the job where a Colt rifle would not be my first choice. I've used Colt rifles with complete confidence in war and at home. Properly maintained and operated, Colt rifles are utterly reliable and accurate. The Spikes might not be a terrible rifle, but can you silence the voice in the back of your head that will inevitably say "shit, I should have bought a Colt?"

The trick in getting a Colt (or any quality AR) is having an FFL to receive your gun setup ahead of time and having the money in hand. If you find a gun and then have to do all this, you'll probably miss out. Quality AR's are too easy for a vendor to sale for them to "hold" it for you or some other nonsense.

I remember during the panic vendors would change their website stating that they had "x" (quanity) AR's in stock and in 45-minutes, changing the site back because they would be out of stock.

The 6920's are out there but the window of availability is very short.

    But maybe it's just me...

The le? I would prefer the other, read a post, may have been yours actually, about how people do not want law enforcement on their weapon hah! How much is that one running? And any hopes of the SP in the near future? Thanks!

    To the OP

Much like yourself, I researched my build for months and months before "pulling the trigger. Since the lower received is the only part that had to go through FFL dealer. I went ahead and purchased a complete Stag Arms lower at my local range. Probably paid $40 more dollars than I would have online somewhere, but the transfer fee made it a wash.

After many good reviews and posts (many people on m4carbine.net) my m4rgery was composed of a BCM upper 14.5" barrel with a pinned flash hider 1.5" to make it a legal 16" length to avoid the SBR tax. BCM Auto Bolt Carrier Group and mod 4 charging gunfighter handle. For handguards I went with the Magpul MOE.

Of course I DID consider the shortcomings of a pinned flash hider. Not easily removable, still I went ahead, figure I can just change the barrel at some point down the line and get a mid-length gas system.

Be careful of the "upgrade" black hole. Its easy to get carried away with all the cool stuff out there. Shoot your rifle as is before making changes to it. I shot my buddy's AR so I knew what I wanted right away. You may too, just some advice.

One last note, I'd consider a mid-length gas system. If I could do it over again, that's what I would change. I got caught up in the "carbine m4 hype."

    1. All firearms are ALWAYS loaded.
    2. Don't point the muzzle at anything you're not willing to destroy.
    3. Keep your finger off the trigger until you're on the target and ready to shoot.
    4. Be sure of your target and backstop.

The ST i was looking at is a mid-length i believe. Will that be a downside to purchasing the colt? I believe it has a carbine length system. Thanks for that input by the way!
