Doesn't keeping the pistol in that type of retention position sweep your thigh/leg/foot while you are fast walking?

It sure might, SUL is good/great for stacking and not much else. and the other pic (pic #2) guy is reloading and the cover is NOT up on target

Sure it can, Sul has its place, its another tool in the box.
Big boy rules, i was following the course as we were instructed to do for this. It is easy to take a picture and run it out of context.

While that picture seems like im flagging my leg, I could have been, Its hard to say.

Being mindful of the multiple photographers that were in my lane straight in front of me at that moment, I do admit the pistol was more "inboard" than I would have liked, with the safety on and finger straight, it is what it is. While I am an obvious proponent of 4 firearm safety rules, Life is about mitigating risk, especially shooting.

The disadvantages/advantages of sul were covered before/after the drill.

Shit happens....once again, pictures only say so much. Guns run dry. Especially single stacks. In a perfect world, I would have had a carbine on me. In a perfect world my battle buddy would have had M249. Or the ability to call for fire for effect.

Fortunately, this was also covered and corrected in the brief aar we had after we had finished up.

but back to the main reason of this thread, 1911s and their awesomeness.

Derek, that looks like it was an awesome class! How many people were running 1911s?

Also, got any closer pics of that beauty?

If you're gonna do anything but shoot from a standstill at a still paper target you're gonna end up sweeping your feet at some point during draw, reholstering, maneuvering..

If you're gonna follow the 4 rules as if they were the 10 commandments you practically can't do anything with the gun.
