Just got it today. Needs a cleaning, but for the price, I couldn't pass it up. It weighs less than my Kimber by the feel of it.

Where can I find an unchambered, gunsmith-fit 1911 barrel with a .224 groove diameter, twist rate of anything from 9 to 14, with a top-quality bore? I don't believe it exists. I could make one from a blank, but getting a blank big enough is.... not impossible, but a bit of a special-order thing, meaning time and money. The money is not the issue in this case, but the time sure is. That may be the production solution for this prototype project, but to get something to experiment with, this is how the solution starts:

I would totally have used this as a sleeve: unfired Remington barrel from an XP100 from the days when I worked for benchrest legend Bob Simonson. There were many of these in the scrap rack at his place, as guys were using XP100 actions to build benchrest rifles. But upon borescoping, it had a few areas of light pitting. In my own scrap rack I found some barrel blank ends from previous AR15 projects. All three are long enough for this. I think I’ll use one of the Douglas Premiums. This project will be a fair amount of work and if it doesn’t do what it’s supposed to, I want to know that it’s not because I cheaped out on the sleeve. The fourth candidate was the barrel horizontally at the bottom, out of focus, taken off a Colt H-Bar after if blew up. I would totally have used it but it did not borescope well. It's been around here for years in the scrap rack but this was the first time I 'scoped it; too many rounds through it to use here.
