First, I think it would probably be beneficial to mount the light, with switch, at 1 or 11 vs 3 or 9, any pros or cons?
I see the Daniel defense for around $40,I've heard of the Hailey, any others to consider?

I prefer as close to 12 as possible, mainly due to shadow from the barrel and seems the easiest for me to use the light there. I loved my gear sector before I went to the 300 in the unity exo mount. I like it more than the gear sector.

I run Gear Sector on long picatinny rails, IWC Thorntails on SBRs, Arisaka on Keymod, and IWC on MOE Handguards all at 11:00.
Why do the loudest do the least?
I use magpul rail light mount & scout mount at 11:00

its for a surefire ultra or streamlight, the daniel defense, gear sector, and IWC all look good. I think the IWC is the only one that lets you get a bit of extension forward, guess I will wait for a xmas sale and see which is cheapest
Gearsector is simply the best offset light mount available for pic rail mounting.

My setup is similar to Slvr Surfr but I used a Haley Strategic Thorntail offset mount.WP_20141105_001.jpgWP_20141105_001.jpg
