Colt 6720 (LW) cut to 11.5"?

I have a Colt 6720 that I would like to cut to 11.5”. The OD looks to be about 0.570 until it steps up right before the FH to 0.610.

Can this barrel be cut to 11.5” without issue?

What gas port size and buffer would work best while running a Gemtech HALO?

If the factory front sight is scalloped and contoured will it fit under a Troy Alpha HG?

    Thanks!

Machining a LWT barrel isn't a great idea. The flair at the end of the barrel is to properly support the crush washer. With the flair removed, the shoulder left after machining really isn't sufficient to support installation of the muzzle device.

If I wanted to make that conversion, I would sell the 6720 upper, and buy a 6933 upper, rather chop the barrel. Plus you do not have to worry about gas port size, etc.

Assuming your compliant with pertinent NFA regs...

Swap your barrel or entire upper for a high quality option in the desired length.

There are better 11.5" barrels than a cut down pencil - something like the Centurion CHF, or even the bespoke Colt 6933 units come to mind, but this usually is the preferred route for all those reasons.

Swap the barrel out for a BCM, DD, or Centurion

I considered doing the same with a 6520 since the A2 upper is lighter than the A3 (M4) upper but ended up just getting a 6933.

Even though the railed upper is a tad heavier I'm glad I went that route.

How does the 6933 compare to DD, BCM, and Noveske or a custom build?

Couldn't tell you. I have limited experience with Daniel Defense and almost no personal experience with BCM or Noveske. For everything I've read that I consider credible, they are all fine rifles.

But what I do know about Colt is the reason I haven't felt compelled to get a DD, BCM or Noveske. I don't think you can go wrong with any of them.
