    Gosh, AR's are fun

Well, I finally picked up a BCM 16" middy AR two months ago.

Previously owned a RRA 9mm AR for winter indoor range use, but never shot that one over 50' as that is the length of my local indoor range (where I shoot mostly pistols). I recently joined an outdoor range that has everything from 25 yds. to 240 yds., and bought the BCM AR15. Added an AimPoint PRO to assist my aging eyes, and have taken it to the range three times so far. Have the Aimpoint zero'd at 50/200 yds.

This weekend, the club had a AR Tactical challenge. Course of fire was at 60 yds., a runner that went back and forth four times (with two paper plates, one 4" and one 8" mounted on the moving pole), and in between the runs you shot at six clays sitting in the center of the run. Ran a bunch of runs, and what a hoot! The BCM ran flawlessly (but of course it does!) with M193 ammo, and to my surprise, the AimPoint was pretty easy to use at moving targets at 50-60 yards (guess that shooting skeet for 5 years probably helped with the mover). Worked well on the clays too. Didn't know AR's could be this much fun. Time to buy more ammo and practice, practice!

Are you in Wisconsin by chance?

You guessed right. I'm live 20 or so miles from Bravo Company's headquarters. The competition today was at Daniel Boone. I see you also live in BCM country. Did you by chance shoot today?

At least half the rifles I saw there were BCM's. Cheers!

As with most things in life, it was interesting that some of the guys with the most modded AR's shot the worst. One guy with a SBR BCM that had a ACOG, DBAL (I think that's what they're called), rail, VLTOR stock, Surefire light, etc. (the definition of a mall ninja gun) shot really poorly. One of the gent's had a son that was shooting what looked to be a stock 20" Armalight AR15 with an old style fixed carry handle and therefore fixed iron sights, 30 rd. GI mags, no rails or any other attachments and got one of the better scores there - pretty darn impressive.

Certainly makes me want to add nothing to my BCM Mod 0 and just spend my money on ammo and practice.

Probably a good thing to do.

Also in Wisconsin and am hoping to find a nice place to shoot a little closer to home once my rifle finally arrives.

Daniel Boone is a nice club if you're in the SE Wisc. area. Ranges from 25 yds. out to 240 yds., and quite a few competative events each month - rifle (AR matches, 3 gun, sillouette, high power NRA, etc.), pistol, shotgun.

What kind of gun are you waiting on?

I've shot at DB. Not a member but a friend was. Very nice place I'd probably pick up a membership if I didn't live 5 minutes away from McMiller, and can shoot there for free.

I also used to work at McMiller in Eagle WI. Not bad, not great. Ranges from a few feet out to 300 yards. Trap and Sporting clays as well.

    Where in WI are you?
