    This.

The optic will hold zero with the same barrel.
Once you swap out the barrel for a different barrel OR different length barrel, you will have to rezero.
The same obviously goes for 5.56 to 9mm.

    ACR

All ****ed. Skimped on quality parts, no factory SBR options, etc. Every one of these requires several hundred, if not thousands to get them in the proper configuration that they should have been from the start.

I will admit the AUG is the least ****ed as it can be restored to Austrian configuration rather easily.
Yep. All the Pre-bans wouldn't be worth half of what they are now if the current iterations were done right.

Most old colts aren't hardly worth 1k, because you can buy a better new colt for 1k, unless your looking for a 1st year SP1 or something.

If you don't voice your opinion, you'll see the same results. I have already talked with Pete about it, and it is what it is. I wouldn't say I'm bent out of shape as Pete already has my money.

    [QUOTE=STG77;1386851]Sabre Def. built the barrels.
While Sabre Def. made some very nice barrels, the barrels they provided to Steyr were not of the same quality as FN is now producing.

The SDI barrels were plane jane chrome moly button rifled 1/9 with a compensator. These barrels were not chrome lined. SDI could have made excellent barrels with their CMV steel and then CL them, but they didn't...
The new FN barrels are cold hammer forged on Austrian mandrels straight from Steyr using the FN "machine gun steel". These have the same outer profile/dimensions as the A1 Austrian barrels and have a mannox finish (both of which the SDI barrels don't have).
These are chrome lined and come with the original style "tulip" flash hider instead of the compensator.
The FN barrels also come in 1/9, but will be available in 1/7 either in the future as a replacement barrel or as an option (not known yet). But we do know that FN has made 1/7 AUG barrels. Pete has one...

The SDI A3's and these new A3's are virtually identical in every way, except for the barrel.

The Sabre barrels are alot better than you describe them, they have a chrome lined barrel and chamber. Sabre had military contracts to produce several different military barrels and had a special process on honing the bores, they used the same process on the A3 barrels.I cant comment on the barrel steel because i just cant remember the type used . While i believe the FN barrels will be the best barrel ever made for an AUG dont sell the Sabre barrel short by describing it as a common low price barrel.

Thank you, that is good to know.

That is the impression I was given when I bought it and was seriously bothered when informed otherwise. You just saved me a lot of money to upgrade the barrel.

I'll probably still buy a 24" Hbar though, maybe a 20" as well.

I have read about a LOT of quality issues regarding the Australian rifle vs. the Austrian rifle.

The F88 does away with QC barrels, which in my opinion is one of the attributes of the AUG platform.

I stand corrected. The SDI A3's are chrome lined. From what I recall though, the barrel steel was not their CMV they were famous for nor were they CHF.
