OAL is the same as my 10.5" AR with the stock completely collapsed, and blast-wise it's much more pleasant to fire. With an Aimpoint PRO with the spacer taken out, it comes up and on target for me like it was surgically grafted onto my arm. Yes, the trigger is not so good - but neither are Glock triggers, and I can shoot the hell out of them. I found that if I ignore the fact that it doesn't feel like a Geissele and just shoot, it is capable of shooting excellent groups.

I would advise that anyone who thinks they might want one to get some trigger time on an A3. You'll either like it or you won't, but you ought to find out while they're still available. I'm just worried I won't be able to get ANOTHER one before shit goes sideways. PJsSteyrAUG has PLENTY of spare parts available, and magazines are all over the net in the $15-20 range.

I've added a VCAS and Aimpoint PRO, along with an X300 on the right rail (tapeswitch inbound). I'm working up some manipulation drills for it, and naturally I'm not as smooth as with the M4 yet.

The 16" version fits in an Eberlestock Secret Weapon like it was made for it, and with a 42 round mag in place that's a lot of hate to have on tap quickly.

It's not going to the head of the line for me as a go-to yet, but damn it, I could see it happening.

S-25 or S-34 Eberlestock secret weapon? I am thinking of picking up the S-25 and keeping the barrel removed in the case.

Hell, I didn't know there were two. I thought the smaller one was a Cherry Bomb?

Yup, looked it up. I have a Secret Weapon. The S-25 is the Cherry Bomb.

I completely agree with your review...I absolutely love mine. While I am mostly a pistol shooter, Ive dabbled in AR's quite a bit over the past few years and just never fell in love...the AUG A3 has changed that for me. I love mine as well.

I have mine setup with an Aimpoint optic as well and it shoots very very well for me, and I too love how short and compact the whole package is. The only real gripe I have about it is the weight...and it's really not that bad, just a bit heavier than I'd like. I have the CQC rail on mine too which is kind of a waste for me, if I were to buy another AUG I'd get the regular A3 without the rail.

I too would say - if you're interested in these rifles give one a shot...I think most people would be pleasantly surprised by how well they shoot.

Right you are. I am thinking of using the Cherry Bomb.

Also, I totally agree with your review. The AUG just fits me very well and I shoot AUGs well. The AR15 has a leg up on the AUG as far as transitioning to the non-dominant shoulder, modularity and general parts availability. But I just love the AUG and am finding it to be my favorite non-Stoner series rifle.

Right on, QuietShootr. I keep telling people to try one, and they keep saying the same thing I said for 30 years: "No thanks, I don't like bullpups". They don't know what they are missing.

I've been finding the things I "knew" about the AUG were either exaggerations or just wrong. Accuracy may not equal most of my ARs, but I have to scope them, bench them, and measure closely to see it. The trigger is heavy but its crisp, so I can use it better than many triggers with half the pull weight. The ergonomics aren't so much bad as unfamiliar. The mag changes are slower, but using mine as house gun with a 42 rounds, I don't expect to be making a lot of emergency mag changes.

I'm half-crippled (back) and can shoot the AUG longer offhand than I can an AR. The AUG is heavier, but the weight is more rearward. I end my practice session by shooting offhand at 50, and end up doing about equal with the AUG as anything else.

I like it. I'd have to think to find a complaint.
And I used to not even want to look at them. I'm trying to make amends.

They got a bad rep in 1985 when the army debuted them as the "AR-60."

It's hard to be a ACLU hating, philosophically Libertarian, socially liberal, fiscally conservative, scientifically grounded, agnostic, porn admiring gun owner who believes in self determination.

    Chuck, we miss ya man.
