Having said that I don't really understand some people's fascination with "co-witnessing". In my limited experience it's been cluttering the view and making target acquisition slower. The way I solve this for myself - a solid quality irons with preferably folding front sight and an optic with the QD mount. This way I've got all off my bases covered. Another option I've got on my HK UMP recently - a taller see through mount for my Zeiss red dot allows me to use the iron sights without removing the RDS. It still can be removed within seconds if necessary.

See thru mounts were the standard solution in the 80s. If you have a wide viewer like an Eotech, co witness is practical. That way if your batteries decide to die at the worst possible moment you can just use irons without changing anything.
With any tube scope like an ACOG, T1 or Aimpoint, co witness causes problems...at least for me.
With stuff like SIGs and HKs, I just make sure any red dot has a QD lever in case I need to dump it for irons.
It's hard to be a ACLU hating, philosophically Libertarian, socially liberal, fiscally conservative, scientifically grounded, agnostic, porn admiring gun owner who believes in self determination.
