Over-gassed 11.5.. cut to 10.5 help at all??

Surprised I haven't seen gunsmiths offering to 'comp' a barrel by drilling holes at the end to reduce gas. Easier than chopping and you don't have to re crown and thread

Additional question. Is it possible for a port to be welded and redrilled with no detrimental effects?

Do you mean to reduce the size of the gas port? I imagine it's possible, but it'll certainly have detrimental effects. Welding changes the heat treating around it, and warps things (they pull towards the weld).

I wouldn't trust it at all. I'd much rather do an insert in the gas block.

Believe me... I asked a kid we know who has a welder... "can you weld this FSB shut?" His welder wouldn't get into that confinement. alternatively... welding on the barrel would not fly with me.
