Uninitiated people are generally only going to buy what they can afford out of one paycheck, or one income tax return.

If Colt wants to market to them, fine.

There's enough of 'us' out here that good parts will still be marketable and we'll be able to have it our way.

People can pay for the Colt name with a price point that's comparable to S&W and this makes for a good retail decision.
Nice post. I would still love to see a $ 1000 6920 available anywhere at this point.

Look at it this way: the more low-cost ARs available on the market, the more people will be betting into black rifles, and the harder it will be to restrict/ban them.
Cyril: Oh now that's a breach of trust!

Lana: Do you really want to open this can of trust-breachy worms after I just found you and my ex-boyfriend with a dead hooker in the trunk?

    Cyril: ...I do not.

If Colt starts selling rifles that are subcontractor specials... what do you think Walmart/retail chains are going to buy the 6900 or the 6920? Do you think most people will really know the difference between the two? Do you consider that right now, DD/LMT/whoever may be watching this and considering a lite model too? There is a finite number of AR buyers, instead of educating and marketing to get quality rifles in hands, the focus becomes just getting "something" out there. This could mean enlarging the market over time and it can mean less top-tier models are sold.

You know what happens when less of the top tier models are sold and not made in high quantities? Price goes up. So there are a million variables here, but the correct response to loosing sales to a SW Sport style gun is good marketing not racing to the bottom of the feature pool. But whatever, Colt I'm sure has some smart people calling the shots.

Point is, even if you don't buy one of these "Colt"s this could effect you.
I understand what you guys are saying and respect your opinion. But I have never and will never be loyal to a brand. It's either quality or I'll take my business elsewhere. It's truly that simple.....

Relax. It will be ok. Colts are still a good rifle.

Agreed. While I don't buy DPMS, RRA, Bushy, Double Star, etc I am glad that these companies have literally flooded the market with reasonably priced black rifles. The wider the breadth of ownership of black rifles the better.

There is nothing in more "common use" (as per the Heller decision) than semiauto black rifles, semiauto handguns and standard capacity magazines for these options.

The 6900 is NOT a rifle I will buy. With that said I hope Colt sells every single one they make.

That may sound good in theory, but reality is much different. There are probably somewhere between 5-8 million AR's in private hands and it doesn't stop the grabbers at either the state of federal level.

Then took a look at magazines- There are millions of AR mags out there and Colorado just found how the hard way how that theory holds up.

You can't make a judgement based upon current conditions because this isn't normal and the market is already correcting itself. Just look at Gunbroker.

The 6900 is not something I would buy but it will be something that will compete with a competitive budget line market. Like Iraq said, the market is getting back to normal. I bought into the easy cash route and sold my spare 6920 for $2,000 in early February. I would be lucky to get $1,200 for it now.
Not sure about you guys, but I'm only here for the free food and open bar.

Will be getting more 6920's as long as they continue to make them as they have. I see no reason in this new rifle to anybody who has any interest in quality or the reasons Colt AR's are known for what they are.
