    2a defense thread

With all the hysteria, I thought instead of arguing and complaining, we could post ways to combine forces to actually fight potential legislation.

If there are petitions or other ways to actually do something (boiler plate letters to congressmen), post them here, also legislation that has been submitted, post here so we can track it. I'll do some research and update after work.

Sadly time to bump this again for anyone who hasn't seen it.

Great posts Steyr. It is interesting that this need to be recycled over, and over for each incident some HUMAN commits in which the tool gets blamed as if they act independently. I do believe a lot of liberal/progressives want law abiding citizens disarmed as we can not be trusted like government.

Still spot on, Steyr. Would you mind if I gave you another "Guest Post" repost in my column at RedState with this sometime?

BTW, are you the same SteyrAUG who smacked down Gecko45 all those years ago?

    By all means.

As to Gecko45, I was actually in on it. I know the actual arfcom identities of Gecko45 and Specops.

Maybe one day when I've got all the more important stuff done. As for Gecko45, he did all the heavy lifting, I just made some suggestions and things like that. He pulled all of that out of his own head and I think he became a legend on Glocktalk and later Specops joined the crew and I sorta got into it on HK91.com, after that we tried taking a run at the FAL Files but at this point he was too famous to really get any traction.

Met him in person at the Orlando Shot Show and hung out with him and the guys from the Cav Arms crew. But honestly besides this thread and a few tech threads related to HK firearms, the only one I really take pride in is this one for creativity.

    We need to seriously organize

The only way to stem the tide of the left is to organize to the same extent they do. Our lobbying organizations fail miserably at the local and state level, as evidenced by the latest legislation in Florida.

How do we get our message across? Organize small marches at state levels? Social media? I've reached out to Colin Noir for his input, along with other prominent pro-2A figures.

We need to educate those who might be on the fence, people who get their "information" from the MSM.

Mods, please don't roll this into another thread. This needs to be it's own conversation.

Social Media for sure, not just any of our individual pages/channels/accounts/what-not but also a unified group one. As I posted the other week somewhere here in the forums, we should take a look at indivisible.org and how they are organized against us, then see what we can use of their own tactics. IIRC MAC suggested having our local and Federal reps on speed dial. Doesn't mean we have to call them over every little thing, but at least we'd already have their information when we need it. Follow our reps on social media and if available email newsletters. I can't speak for everyone, but Senator Grassely is IMO good at keeping us informed of what he is up to in DC. Weekly email newsletters, constant FB and YouTube posts, during the "off" seasons he does a tour of stops at every county in our state. Even if you disagree with him he listens as long as you don't get wound up/overly aggressive. For what-ever her reasons, our junior senator does the same thing. Controversial as he is, IA Rep Steve King puts out almost as much information as Sen Grassely. All this helps in knowing at least their public stance on views that affect all of us.

I'd also put forth we talk with our local gun shops and organizations to see if they'd be willing to help out. Might be as little as allowing posting of flyers advertising we are holding meetings to help organize, might be more. My LGS helps support the local private range, makes a good amount of sales on AR's, yet still isn't open to helping organize beyond supporting the NRA.

MSM likes to put "experts" front and center to help forward their agendas. How many of us have seen retired military/LEO on tv lately? How many of those "experts" have given out information they surely know is false/misleading? For those of us who can, contact local media and see if they'd be open to presenting a differing view (especially for those of us who are vets/LEO/etc). I know there will be hesitation to outright resistance to this idea from personal experience where I work, but let's be honest the worst that can happen if we ask is to be told "no". I would also suggest those of us who can should start blogs and video posts on social media to present our views (preferably after we polish them a bit and not go into things hot headed).

If we do know people on the fence, offer to take them to a range. You may be surprised who will accept. I've had three co-workers that I never thought would accept my offer that did. Two now have their own firearms, the third at least changed their stance and supports the Second.

Finally, I daily see a sticky that M4C is on FB. Not having FB myself I'm curious, does the site's page ever post expressing our views?

That's all I have off the top of my head at the moment, but I agree we need to seriously organize.

Contacting local news outlets is a good idea and something I hadn't thought of. If we go that route we need to dress professionally, be respectful and empathetic, and most importantly control the conversation. Most of the time they paint pro-2A types to be ignorant nutjobs.
