SCAR 16 Factory short barrel availability

Since the SHOT show and following a new Google search, I could not find any new information regarding the availability of factory FN short barrels for the SCAR 16. I've been "hearing about them" for a few years and know that some after market companies have been cutting barrels e.g. Hi Desert, but am wondering if anyone has any new information? or are they unobtanium.

Waited long enough for these, my 16 barrel is off getting cut down by Marvin and my 17 will follow shortly when the Form 1 for it gets back.

Rhino - I've thought about doing that on my 16 and 17 as well. I'd sure like to hear your reports after you get the 16 back from Marvin AND you've put a far number of rounds down range. I've toyed with the idea but have hesitated after hearing of concerns regarding gas port sizing and reliability challenges. My "stock" 16 is reliable as can be - hate to screw that up BUT would sure like to have a short barrel option.
Best of luck with your project.

My buddy Rod and I were the first 2 SCAR barrels that Marvin chopped down to 10.0". That was almost 3 years ago. My CQC has just over 5K rounds through it in that time with zero change in accuracy or reliability. He's cut dozens of SCAR barrels since then (including 2 more for me).

    Just FYI.

I'll post results when I get my SCAR 16 barrel back, but I don't foresee any issues with it. I do have an assortment of gas control screws if I need to tweet that a bit to get it to run perfectly, but there are plenty of posts on that topic and it's an easy change overall.

I've been waiting for factory CQC barrels, especially for the 17 as it would be nice to have 16" and 13", but once the 16 barrel gets back I'm sending my 17 barrel to Marvin (can't be SCARless of course!). The 17 barrel should be back right as the Form 1 arrives, but if not I'll store the barrel with my local FFL/SOT until it arrives to avoid constructive possession issues.

Then I might pick up a factory 16" barrel for the 17 if I find one, but I really see no need / desire to get one for the 16 as I have other non-NFA ARs that fill the role of a non-SBR 5.56 rifle, but the 17 is my only 7.62 rifle at this time so it'd be nice to have the option to swap the barrel out.

Not to mention $150 for Marvin to shorten the barrel to whatever length you want vs @ $1200 for a full CQC length barrel assembly... I subscribe to the "Buy once, cry once" adage but in this case I think your "bang for the buck" is better spent getting a quality barrel cut down job vs buying a CQC barrel (especially since they have been "almost here" for over a year)...

Marvin's crown work was perfection. Far better than any factory job I've seen.
