My Recce-ish build.

I plan for this to do some 500m steel shooting as well as the occasional prairie dog trip. Been buying parts here and there for some time but finally got the URX so I was able to put her together. Optic is my next challenge. Can't decide on a 1-4, a 2.5-10, or an ACOG. Budget is right around $1k.

I already had my mind set on my new "build," (I only build the lower and slap a BCM on it, so far.) that my optic would be a T-1.

The hardest decision I made was an endplate and sling... It took a couple weeks.

Nice rifle. I would take a look at the SWFA 1-6x FFP scopes. Right about your budget level.

I just got the new Vortex PST 2.5-10. Costed me 799, for an illuminated FFP reticle and good glass. Two options as well, either MOA or Mils for the reticle depending on your preference.

I basically have a Noveske version of that. I just got a US Optics 1.5-6X for it.

I have Leupold 1.5-5X that I'm going to sell now. Let me know if you're interested.

I second the SWFA 1-6x option. The bushnell options would work well, though cost a bit more (but still "around" 1k).

I recall Kyle Defoor saying that a 1-6 is just about perfect for most situations you could find yourself in with an AR.

I've done red dots, eotechs, 1-4s, 1-6s, 2.5-10, and 4-16.

By far my favorite combination so far is a 2.5-8x Leupold TS-30A2 with a RMR on a offset. Glass is amazing, and the TMR reticle is impressive.

If you're going with the bulk and weight of a scope, get something with some magnification to it. All of the high magnification range scopes, 1-6 or 1-8 for example, are lacking when it comes to exit pupil. Having a dual optic solution really give you the best of both worlds.

Canting is much better than dialing or manipulating a magnifier.

I have the RMR mount that is attatched to the Larue ring half; the new style that is angled. If needed, the entire assembly scope and RMR together, can be removed by just using the QD levers of the Larue mount.

FWIW, I do like the 2.5-10x or 2.5-8x options out there, and I think have their place when it comes to observation and target ID.

I think the OP needs to decide if he wants to take advantage of FFP optics, which can be very fast for a variety of uses.

I am very interested in the new Vortex FFP 2.5-10, though.

I should note the Mark 4 TS-30A2's actual magnification is 3-8.7x. For some reason they call it 2.5-8...

I don't like low power FFP scopes. The reticle is typically on the small side.

I generally find myself on either range of the magnification with any variable scope i've used. As such, it isn't hard to know your holds at both posistions, and some ballistic calculators will give you both. But in general, if you're that far you'd want the magnification anyway.

Try as many scopes as you can and be VERY realistic about what you are going to be using the rifle for. Don't get caught up in how a scope will be bad for room distance or taking a class. You can always take it off and run irons and not endure a weight penalty.

I find it intresting that Vortex included a parallax adjustment on the 2.5-10x FFP.
