What price is too much for m44s now a days?
Classic is selling them for $229....seems pretty pricy and I am not sure it is worth the investment. I do already have a regular 91/30.
Opinions?

Do you have any details on the rifle? Collectors will pay more, say for example, a Tula made M44, and of course condition plays a big part as well. Look here for some good info on Mosin Rifles: http://7.62x54r.net/
I paid $150 for a 1944 Izhevsk M44 a little over a year ago, and those are the most common. Recently, M44s are starting to become harder to find, they used to be almost cheaper than regular M91/30s. $229 seems high if its a common variant, but again, these have been going up in price as they become harder to find.
It's a fun rifle, it's loud and kicks pretty good, but it's a good time. I'd say go for it, $229 isn't a whole lot of money to begin with and IMO they are worth $229 in the fun of shooting them and the history they have.

well here is the direct link

Well, the internet ad doesn't really tell you much about what they are selling. They don't have a picture of the stamps or anything really specific to go on. I'd assume that they probably aren't anything rare or collectible, in which case it isn't a steal, but I still think that $229 is not a bad price for a rifle. Get a hold of them and ask for some details. If it looks good to you, buy it.

I will do that. The 91/30 I first bought I got to hand see in person and it was a Tula Hex 1931.
*EDIT* They replied and said its a large assortment of 3500 rifles. They didn't go through every one.

"People talk 45. shoot 9mm and carry 38." Jeff Cooper
now it would be - "People talk G19, Shoot G34 and Carry G43"
found out these latest ones are "hunting versions" and more than likely the barrels are replaced, etc.
In other words, its not a true "soviet refurb" as other mosins have been.
"Hunting versions"? That's a new one. What do they do - remove the bayonet?
The average M44 is over the $200 range these days, and that's just for a run-of-the-mill refurb. I miss the days of the pristine postwar Russians going for $79.99 at Big 5
Wow, why are people paying that much for an M44? That's what Yugo SKSs were selling for in 08.
First gun I ever bought was an 1944 Izhevsk M44 for $100 at Gander Mt. in 08. Best "What the hell, it's only $100" purchase I ever made.
