I ran across this company on TOS. The Orange button yielded only a few posts in the precision rifle thread. [Not sure if this should go in Gen or Tech Discussion]

They make carbon fiber wrapped barrels. I believe their primary market is precision/bolt action rifles, but they also claim to make AR barrels and offer complete rifles (though their "Monolithic AR-15" starts at $3100 and AR-10 at $3400). http://proofresearch.com/rifles/ar-s...olithic%20AR15

Barrel FAQ says they do most common 5.56 and .308 AR type barrels, though it sounds like they are delivered with a unfinished muzzle (tooling threads). http://proofresearch.com/barrels/

Does anyone have any experience with these barrels? I can see the potential value of better heat transfer and lighter weight for a bolt action precision rifle. But for an AR platform, I don't see what this offers, beyond "coolness factor", over a lightweight barrel.

I'd like to think their manufacturing process is on point. However, steel and CF have different CTEs last I checked - hence Inconel, Hastelloy, and the other fancy expensive metals that exist to match CTE with CF.

I think this is why we don't see any CF wrapped barrels on anything that might see auto-fire; repeated temperature swings would eventually delaminate the wrap from the barrel.
