Yes, they imported about 40 M76's with folders in 7.62x39. There were also some wood stocked and fixed tube M76 rifles.

FDF had a small inventory of fixed tube M76's.

I have an M62 with a fixed wood stock and cheesegrater handguard. Very nice guns, I like them more than the galil. My future 7.62x39 purchases will be all Valmets. Really accurate, smooth shooting guns.

Great...that should be another affordable, easily sourced rifle for my list.

I might just have to be satisfied with a 5.56 version.

    Bastid!

If only the Finnish Kalashnikov fairies would bring me an M62 or M76....

    m76

In 1985 I met the Valmet USA folks at the Shot Show in Houston. They were pushing these rifles as introductory items to dealers for about $295. I bought two through my dealer(I was his guest)along with extra mags for $15 dollars each. I can only say nice things about these rifles.

Valmet's goal was establishing their O/U line of shotguns, rifles, and combination guns in the U.S. market. Although great firearms, their line was as popular here as ants at a picnic. Once, Valmet sold their long guns through Savage with the Savage brand stamped on.

I no longer have the two rifles, or the German MP-40, or the French MAS 7.62L sub, or the various Lugers that came and went along the way.

Crom! I have never prayed to you before: I have no tongue for it. No one, not even you, will remember if we used AR-15s or FALs. Why we used Glocks or 1911s. All that matters is today two wanted Valmets in 7.62x39. That's what's important! Valmets please you, Crom; so grant me this one request. Grant me a Valmet! And if you do not, then to hell with you!

I think I have a Valmet brochure from one of the Shot shows back then. Maybe a bit earlier?

Also have a brochure for a Ruger .308 followon that was there in pre-release, but never made it to production! (Maxi???)

I don't know what you'd call full scale production, but the RK95 has been produced several tens of thousands for FDF use. 92 is actually M92s and would be the civilian version of the RK95. It has been produced in two series' over the years, and is the most common RK variant in Finnish civilian market. RK90 was the prototype which evolved into RK95/M92s.
