    Hog fat and bone, yellow?

Hunting south central Florida last night I took a sow. As soon as I opened it up I saw that the fat and bones were yellow, not tinted, but yellow.

I've only cleaned 24 hogs since I started hunting and the fat and bones has always been white. I'm a bit hesitant to keep the meat. There is no smell to the meat and it is pink.

    Any input?

A google search indicates that hogs eating pink root will turn the fat yellow. I'm surprised that this is the only yellow one I have seen or even heard about.

Sounds like the meat is good to keep.

    Thumbs up

Very rarely do I see yellow fat in hogs, except those that are obese and have been feeding real well.

Normally the kidneys are exposed on necropsy and not encapsulated in fat, kidneys buried in fat is a sure sign of a well fed hog that either needs to go on a diet or needs more exercise.

Could have something to do with their particular diet.
