    Put down the Dremel!

A customer recently purchased a high quality Bolt from us. Today, he sent us an e-mail stating that he was unhappy with the Bolt's quality due to the fact that he could not get a Cam Pin to pass all the way through the hole in the Bolt.

In order to "Fix" the problem, he took a Dremel tool to the back side of the Bolt and opened it.

Before you try and "Fix" a problem, please make sure you know what you are talking about FIRST.

Pic of a Colt bolt and Cam Pin. Note how the Cam Pin will not go all the way through the Bolt.

Ya, I know, but what is shocking is that the guy is arguing with me that I am WRONG.

So was this an email to advise that the bolts were 'out of spec' but he figured out a fix? I wonder where that bolt is right now...

Yes and to chastise me for allowing this Bolt to get out of our shop (though I didn't make it).

Poor bolt. Really sad how a reliable firearm can be so easily modified by dremel gunsmiths and in turn make a weapon dangerous. Even more depressing is then quite often the guns are sold used.

Whenever I read stuff like this I think that it's just as well that civilization ends now.

And how many gunsmithing "problems" have been "solved" in the past with the careful...or lack thereof...application of a Dremel?

People tend to wonder why and how their rifles don't work properly when stupid things like this go on.

First time I've heard of something like this. Obviously a new TOS member. Another example of stupidity being all powerful and having no bounds. Never ever underestimate the power of stupid.
