That said, no small part of the magic of the AR platform (and what Stoner was striving for) is light weight. An 8.5 lb (or more) A1 makes no sense at all. When the ban sunsetted, I owned a Colt HBar for awhile; somewhat solved the problem by having ADCO turn the barrel down to Gummint' dimensions, which is another alternative.
An A1 is supposed to weigh 6.5 lbs, a goal to strive for.

I agree. The lightweight and balance is what makes my A1 clone such a fun rifle to shoot.
