We used to pop our M16A2 handguards off in drill when we were in Boot Camp all the time. Never saw why they were a viable option for mounting things too. BUT, if you must, then the IWC is IMO the way to go.

I'm looking at setting up a KISS upper and found these Blue Force Gear wire loops with QD slots. http://www.blueforcegear.com/univers...button-socket/

Geez...how on earth did I miss that?

For $50 you're going to be in UTG territory but I haven't seen any with QD sockets.

That's what I figured. I have had a UTG railed handguard in the past and in all honesty it was fine for a cheap handguard, but if I have to add QD sockets to it I might as well keep the A2 or get the MOE and install the IWC Micro sockets, since I don't really need to hang anything off of it.

Sorry to necropost, but I've stumbled into the same issue and had a question...

Would drilling and mounting the QD socket/cup farther aft, near the delta ring and barrel nut, be a little more secure and less prone to "pop" the handguard out of the cap? I have a KISS setup with standard furniture, and want to keep it that way, save for the QD socket/cup already in the A1 stock.
