    Would you trade?

A really good buddy of mine has been collecting parts for a Mega MA-Ten build and currently has a matched receiver set, 18 Rainer Select bbl, GB and tube, DPMS or CMMG LPK, buffer spring and buffer, and ten PMAGs. He asked me if I wanted to trade him for an AR15. The gun I have to trade is a Doublestar with ALG ACT trigger, BAD lever and MOE stock. Upper is a BCM 14.5 with pinned BC, YHM specter gb, 11 Rainer Evo Rail, Magpul MBUS and AR Stoner NiB BCD.

He is a really good buddy so any price difference is a mute point. He wants a complete gun he can afford to shoot and actually use for HD. With WY Game and Fish changing regs he could use this for hunting deer and pronghorn.

If we did trade I would need a stock, BCG, rail, muzzle brake and a few onsie twosie items. Rough ball park price to complete would be about a 11-1200 as I would do a Troy rail, probably cut down and pin a BABC, UBR and have to wait for a BCG. In the mean time I could use my existing lower and BCG. My purpose for this would be a lighter weight close range elk gun. I already have a 2x ACOG and an Aimpoint Micro that I can use for optics.

    What are your thoughts?

I think I'd give the trade serious consideration. I would not cut down the 18" Rainier barrel. Drop length much past 16" and the velocities you get start looking like a 300 BLK. I have a BABC on a 308 Para FAL with an 18" barrel and it works great. If it's going to be a close range elk rifle, you can use use non free float handguards and get it up and shooting now and save some money. You can always upgrade to an FF tube later

Yeah, you are right, cutting downprobably would not be the best bet. If I don't do that I would most likely get an OPS Inc like I have already. I think dimpling would cut the weight down more efficiently than choping of.
I have been kicking around the idea of another upper anyways for a close range Sep so when my buddy asked about trade today I'm really considering it. As for trading my AR15, I still have my SBR and my wife's I can play with. As to the upper I can dump a little over $300 and have it shooting.

Yes, as long as I had a quality 5.56 AR on hand still.
