    good news and bad news on CA gun control bills

    Today (10-11-2013)...

    CA Governor Brown signed into law the following gun control bills:
    AB 48 by Assemblymember Nancy Skinner (D-Berkeley) – bans magazine parts kits.
    AB 170 by Assemblymember Steven Bradford (D-Gardena) – assault weapon/DD/MG/SBR/SBS ownership, "person" are only individuals & not trusts/corporations.
    AB 231 by Assemblymember Philip Y. Ting (D-San Francisco) – firearm storage & minors
    AB 500 by Assemblymember Tom Ammiano (D-San Francisco) – firearm storage & prohibited persons
    AB 538 by Assemblymember Richard Pan (D-Sacramento) – clarifies some unloaded open carry exemptions and clarifies LE agency reporting when they destroy/sell a firearm
    AB 539 by Assemblymember Richard Pan (D-Sacramento) – prohibited person storing firearms with FFL dealer
    AB 711 by Assemblymember Anthony Rendon (D-Lakewood) – bans lead ammo for hunting
    AB 1131 by Assemblymember Nancy Skinner (D-Berkeley) – increases the firearm prohibition time period for people that may have mental problems
    SB 363 by Senator Roderick D. Wright (D-Los Angeles) – firearm storage & prohibited persons
    SB 683 by Senator Marty Block (D-San Diego) – firearm safety certificate


    CA Governor Brown veto'd the following gun control bills:
    AB 169 by Assemblymember Roger Dickinson (D-Sacramento) – Unsafe handguns.
    AB 180 by Assemblymember Rob Bonta (D-Alameda) – Registration and licensing of firearms: City of Oakland.
    SB 299 by Senator Mark DeSaulnier (D-Concord) – Firearms: lost or stolen: reports.
    SB 374 by Senator Darrell Steinberg (D-Sacramento) – Firearms: assault weapons.
    SB 475 by Senator Mark Leno (D-San Francisco) – Agricultural District 1-A: firearm sales at the Cow Palace.
    SB 567 by Senator Hannah-Beth Jackson (D-Santa Barbara) – Firearms: shotguns.
    SB 755 by Senator Lois Wolk (D-Davis) – Firearms: prohibited persons.

    Summary:
    Starting on 01-01-2014, bans the transfer (buy, sell, loan, gift, etc), making & importing of magazine parts kits.

    magazine parts kits = all the parts needed to assemble a large (11+ round) capacity magazine

    Wow. I am surprised.

    I am glad I no longer live there. But at least most horrible new bills were not passed.

    Summary:
    Bans trusts and corporations from obtaining/owning/possessing dangerous weapons (assault weapons, DDs, MGs, SBRs, SBSs).

    Only an individual may apply/obtain/own a firearm obtained through a Dangerous Weapons Permit (assault weapon, DD, MG, SBR, SBS).

    Summary:
    Makes it illegal to store a loaded firearm and a minor gains access to it without permission.

    AB500

    Summary:
    Makes it illegal to have an unsecured firearm in a residence in which a prohibited person also resides.

    Person A & B live in the same residence.
    Person A legally owns firearms.
    Person B is a prohibited person.
    Person A must keep all firearms secured at all times.

    Summary:
    Amends/clarifies some of the exemptions to CA's unloaded open carry laws.

    Amends/clarifies when a LE agency must input the disposition (destroyed/sold) of a firearm into AFS/CLETS.

    it's really "bad and less bad news..."

    my sympathies - CA is a great piece of land chock full of nuts.

    but, the rest of us will be under the same types of laws in the not too distant future.

    In regards to AB1131, I think this will scare away gun owners from ever seeking any kind of psych help for fear of being put on the "no buy" list. Would a docs recommendation also lead to confiscation of existing guns under this law?
    Bad news for gun people with legitimate psych needs.
    My 7 iron is more accurate than my capabilities. Same with my AR.

    Great only a little bit more rights are taken away and we should be happy ,,,what a society!
