    Umlaut Industries lower...

    http://www.umlaut-industries.com/pro...products_id=52

    How are these lowers?

I have seen a couple around in the picture thread, but how are they? I can't seem to find any reviews...

Do not personally own one. A buddy I shoot with has built 2 of them with no issues ,one colt LPK and one G&R LPK. No issues with either, finish seems fine, mags drop free etc.

Umlaut is local here, the owner is friendly enough and seems to know his stuff, but that doesn't automatically translate to perfect machine work.

Personally, I don't think the price is justified over any other stripped lower (Wideners still has LRBs for <$100), unless you really want the NH state motto 'live free of die' on the side of your lower.

More well known lowers are available for less money. Rainier Arms has a decent stock of several brands right now. Not to take away from the business of the manufacturer you linked, they might be fine. I do like the "WTF" prefix on their serial number

Haha thanks guys! I was just curious. I am just looking for a good stripped lower that is machined well to go with a vltor upper.

I only know of a couple that are GTG like noveske, bcm, etc. but not many others...

Mega, Seekins and the Rainier house brand are also excellent options.

I am sure they are very nice options. Just some of the roll marks on them are a little excessive! lol

They are made by mega and are high quality. I know lars the owner well enough. Im also going to lean towards a bcm or noveske but in all seriousness they are held to very tight tolerances.

My first AR was built with one of LAR's Umlaut lowers. I had read that a lower is a lower and liked the "live free or die" (I live in nh) on the lower. For 150$ direct from an ffl (no transfer) it seemed like a good deal instead of paying 100$ for a lame one, 15$ for shipping and then 15-30$ for a transfer. Ended up selling it for a good price up here in NH and getting a lancer cuz i wanted the flared magwell.

I think they are good for basic forged lowers. I wouldn't pay shipping and transfer for one because with that they are near what high end lowers are. If i was ordering one online and wanted to go cheap id go PSA, if i just needed a quality forged one id get a BCM blem from grant. If i was not local it would not be worth it to get a umlaut lower for me.

***I had zero issues with mine. Fit/finish and all that jazz was fine. All my mags (pmags, nhtmg, bcm/D&H, and lancer) dropped free with no issue. Mine was a 100% good to go forged lower. I liked the roll mark so i was willing to pay a tiny bit more, and having the dude 20 minutes away was nice. If it happened to be out of spec i could bring it back and not deal with FFL shipping.

Thanks for the insight. I def like the rollmark. Think its kinda cool, but its not my ultimate deciding factor.
