    Recommendation on a Heavy Barrel

To comply with MD law, I have been on a quest for a "Heavy Barrel" of course the SOCOM|M4 barrels are a no-go. Why you ask, because they have the M203 cut-out feature.

Would love a complete upper receiver group in 5.56 16" heavy barrel for my Colt Lower.

BCM has a great sale on upper receiver groups, but going through their list of firearms, I don't believe anyone of them are "Heavy Barrel".

    Any recommendations?

Unless it's banned by name I would say you need to look at a Colt 6721. I don't know if flash hiders and bayonet lugs are too scary for MD but if not the uppers turn up on Gunbroker from guys parting out Colt rifles. Obviously before you buy anything from there you need to do you're due diligence. Plenty of retailers seem to have complete rifles for around $1k right now.

I have an old one with the large pin fire control group and the half circle bolt carrier and it's still a pretty solid rifle. On the other hand, other than the 1/9 twist HBAR the new ones are exactly the same as the 6720, so even better.

ETA: I just took a look at mine and the barrel is actually marked HBAR. I've seen them for sale parted out before too, so if you're looking to build that could be an option. Those barrels also have a reputation for great accuracy with the right ammo.

You can try CMMG for just the barrel (just swap the one you have -- this one's a mid-length):

What about a Daniel Defense S2W barrel? It is salt-bath nitrided, 18" with a taper to it.

Isn't there some nonsense in the law that it can only be an "HBAR" or something?

Why are the cutouts a problem for you? They have proven to be very accurate. There was a thread about 6 months back about someone using one out to 1000 yrds

Why cant you use a medium wt barrel? If for law, it may be a "heavy bbl" as its heavier than standard.

Problem isn't with me, it is MD SB281. if it has the cutout it is a no-go, bayonet lug is good-to-go.

The manufacture of the barrel, must classify the barrel as HBAR, medium wt is a no-go.

I'd also recommend looking into the 18" barrels. Some real nice shooting barrels in that length nowadays.
Im going to go with one of the Criterion 18" barrel for my next SPR build.Barrels are offered in hybrid or HBAR contour.
