I know it's a CMMG piece and how "highly" (not!) they're regarded around here but what about the Mutant? Anyone have any experience with one?

300blk is at $.50 a round now. Why bother with 762x39

last time i bought 7.62x39 ammo, it was $0.25 a round. if you shoot three 30-rd mags, that's $20 saved. i go through a lot more than that easily on a range day. maybe that's chicken feed to you, but to me, that's real money. i already have the gun and beaucoup mags, so that's sunk cost, now i'm just into the part of enjoying cheap ammo.
... because when I bought it was only $0.15 to $0.20 per round, lol!
Shoot the -39mm bulk ammo out of a bolt action rifle, AR or even a good SKS (Norincos shine in this regard) and accuracy is better than you'd believe, easily 1-2 MOA. PMC soft-points, admittedly not bulk surplus (but a great deer cartridge for Eastern states), shoots sub MOA in my left-handed Zastava mini-Mauser bolt action, while bulk stuff (Golden Tiger or Brown Bear) is still great, easily < 2. My -39mm AR loves the Brown Bear ammo, shot some 1-5/8" groups @ 200-yards. But I think the adjustable gas port helps.

I guess this is what I get for shooting off without explaining my perspective very well.
Constructor, I am not doubting the superior ballistics of the 762x39 over the 300Blk. Obviously that has been made clear. I also want to thank you for my amazing ARP 68 barrel. It is my go-to for MOA accuracy and hunting.
That being said, I built a 300blk pistol for a few reasons. I like how quiet it is with even a home built suppressor (all NFA rules were followed) and I like being able to readily find 220gr subs for it. That was my point. Subs are cheap and it is quiet. A few points off from the 762x39 doesn't bother me. My 300blk is more accurate than I anticipated and very capable to 200+ yards
Thank you for your understanding, guys. I hope I haven't upset you. Thank you again, Constructor! You are an invaluable asset to the gun toting community

bumping this thread because i recently sheered the extractor off my windham 7.62x39. i plan to call windham shortly to see if they'd be willing to provide me with a replacement extractor. the worrisome part, however, is that i only have 1300 rds through it. anyone out there with expertise on 7.62x39 extractors? any tricks to improve their survival such as running a heavier buffer? part of my concern is that with it failing so early, the bolt may benefit from some slight delay prior to pulling back on the steel case?
i'm not looking to be reprimanded for running an AR in 7.62x39. it has major quirks no question about that. i also run 300 blk and 5.56. each are wonderful. the value of the 7.62x39 (at least IMO) is cheap, hits hard and just fun at the range. it's not a serious or defensive setup, just a fun one.
expertise on the extractor issue much appreciated!!
