Nice. How is the slide to frame fit on yours. I just bought a police trade in 229. While the internals look good, the slide to frame fit leaves alot to be desired. There seems to be alot of play. I'm wondering if that's common in a gun that old or model. Mine is currently at Sig right now getting refurbished.
It is a little loose but I would say normal for Sigs I've owned with moderate round counts. I can take the mag out, shake the pistol, and you can hear it rattle a little. My agency purchased these in 1996 so it's hard telling how many rounds it's digested. I would estimate this 229 has fired 5-6k rounds since I've been issued it in 2005. The trigger is very smooth and well broken in. Although it's a little loose in frame/slide fit it remains one of the most accurate pistols I have access to.
Some are a little loose, while others are very tight. Not sure where the sweet spot is. I've been issued older P229 .40s like Doughnut and the guns looked like they had been to hell and back. Finish almost completely gone, frame scratched and dented, and the internals definatley had a lot of wear. However, the guns shot very accurately. Not quite as tight as a new P229, but hard to tell any difference outside of using a bench rest.
Here's my 2004 P229 .40 two-tone. Found it in new condition online a couple of weeks ago:
I would say that the slide on this P229 is in the medium range as far as tightness. Groupings are just as tight as my P220 which says a lot. The fit and finish are exceptional overall though, and a testament to Sigarms golden age(pre 2005). I definately like the .40 in the P229. The Sig engineers really beefed up the slide mass to handle the recoil of the .40, while not using a ridiculously stiff recoil spring. The downside is that the gun is a little top heavy, so it takes some getting used to.

Here's my P6. She's been well loved over the years and I have now decided I need to have it refinished when funding allows.
