Standard rear sight + Troy Micro front sight/rail riser = GTG?

    Hi there everyone,

I've got an oddball question for you. Due to some possible modifications I'm considering for my rifle, my front sight will be placed on a half inch riser (long story). I've been looking for front sights that are shorter than normal to place on this riser, and I came across Troy's micro sights.

My question for you is: would a Troy Micro front sight on a half inch riser be compatible with a standard rear sight on a standard flat top receiver? I know the Troy Micro's are shorter than normal, which may compensate for the half-inch rise, but I wasn't sure how much shorter or if it would compensate enough/too much.

Any help you guys could provide would be much appreciated.

P.S.: all I'm wondering is about the compatibility of the sights, not why my front sight is on a half inch riser or anything else; I'm not trying to be an ass, just trying to stay focused on this slightly esoteric question. Pictures of the above will of course be linked with an explanation should it come to fruition, and all questions will be answered there.

Standard Troy HK folding sight overall height 1.9"
Micro Troy HK folding sight overall height 1.125"
    Difference .775"
Presuming sight post is at same position in sight housings, post offset will be same.
Offset with 1/2" riser leaves micro front sight .175" too low

Sweet! Thanks for the insight. Exactly what I was looking for.

One question: I'm currently using a standard AR front/rear sight on a flat-top AR-15. As far as I know, they're at a different height than an HK front/rear, right?

Well, possible correction. This is my rear sight: http://www.lwrci.com/p-237-lwrci-ski....aspx#inf-tabs

The full sized Troy HK above is meant to be used with standard height AR rear sights when mounted on a same plane rail.
