Could have just as easily been extended AT 386. We really aren't gonna know for sure until we see a stripped view of the inside of the receiver. I know what it would look like if a US gunsmith did the work and I've not seen very many who can do that Chinese style finish. And there would be a crapload of obvious welds and nobody in their right mind would use that gun as an "underfolder" project.

But wanna know who would and who would have the means to fabricate an extended Hunter receiver? The fine folks at 386 who cobble together things like that all the time. I've seen a LOT of non conforming AKs out there. China is probably second only to Afghanistan when it comes to this sort of thing.

Any chance you could pull the parts and get us some detailed photos?

If it were done at the factory, why the extended 'traditional hunting stock' conversion trigger? The import ban and crime bill created that trigger...It was imported with a fixed stock, and no pistol grip.

The person who did this may have done it for no other reason that he had a Norinco Hunter, an underfolding stock assembly and he wanted an underfolding AK. Logic does not always apply. People sometimes spend time and money to devalue (not saying this one is necessarily devalued) things. Look at what people do to some of the cars they're driving around in.

Because of the specific wording of the 89 import ban which may not have named the rifle by name thus leaving it importable regardless of configuration.

I too noticed the difference in the finish behind the latch. Also notice the empty hole inside the back of the receiver (facing up). The hole where a screw for a wooden stock would go.

Interesting build none the less, and truly one of a kind. I'm sure some sucker on GB would pay enough for you to take the money and buy a "Normal looking" pre'89 Chinese underfolder with it.
