Using a ruck for backpacking is kinda stupid. Real backpackers will have multiple backpacks and sleep systems for the trip that they are planning. For my high seirra 4 night/ 40*f trip my pack weighed 20.5 pounds INCLUDING 3L of water. That was with a 40L rei lookout bag. The closest mil style bag that I would work with would have to be a 3 day pack. Anything more just seems like wrong gear for the mission.

Wouldn't it depend on the mission?
