I agree that you do not need to wait for a letter, only that you need to notify in writing for permanent changes.

The definition of "permanent" being giving up the ability to return it to the configuration listed on the Form 1. Keep that original barrel or upper and slap a shorter or longer one on the lower and no notification is necessary.

Or, get real smart, buy and build you a pistol lower (EASY if you have the right parts), but the SB15 brace on it, buy any upper any size you want and get to play with it. SBR it later if you want...go read the AR 15 Pistol threads....

Isnt really only a matter of time until the ATF reinterprets their stance on the brace and calls it an illegal weapon?

Maybe but not likely, but since you'll likely be waiting a year for your SBR stamp, PLUS however long it takes you to get an SBR to your dealer in order to START for the stamp (I've been waiting 18 months now for a Noveske...), building a pistol and then submitting for SBR afterwards means you can have a 99% SBR RIGHT NOW without a stamp and get to shoot it while the paperwork weeds it's way thru the system. And if you build the lower, you get to trick out the parts any way you want...

Yep. And we also encourage forum members to use the search feature. Nothing he asked is ground breaking and has been thoroughly covered several times.
