Have over 800 rounds through mine after yesterday. Love the trijicon HDs. Shot with my ol man and he really liked the front sight (orange). His eye sight is not the greatest and could pick it up good. Shot it next to my fns for the first time. Once upon a time the fns was go to for me. But this gun kills it. It is so easy to shoot accurately with the vp9. I like the trigger a lot more too. It may be a souless plastic pistol, but it flat out shoots.
I am thinking about purchasing a used VP9 locally for $500. This will be my first HK. Is there anything in particular I should look out for? I don't really keep up with HK, have there been any recalls or problems with the VP9?

I gave up..bought a grey framed Gen 4 G19..installed a Apex extractor, and that cured some BTF issues it was displaying, and now it's GTG..I just hope HK is able to bring out a VP9c, before they go bankrupt.. And from what I've been reading in the recent past, that's still a very real possibility... They really need a P-2000/G19 sized VP9, something that uses already available P-2000 mags, and if they (HK) were smart, they'd have it on dealer's shelves by the end of this year..

There's a race of men who don't fit in, A race that can't stay still, So, they break the hearts of kith and kin, and roam the world at will..
I keep flirting with the idea of buying a P2000 as its a great sized carry weapon but the HK cost of living is crazy when compared to Sig or Beretta. It really doesn't bring anything to the table that a P226 or P228 doesn't already. HK (IMO) is riding out a storm they created by locking themselves in a market to where they basically had control of everything from accessories, to parts, and magazines. $50 for a magazine is a huge turn off to just about anyone. Not to mention how many internal parts the damn things have....need a college degree to work on the damn things.
P-2000 mags are usually cheaper than $50, I'm thinking around $35, sure they cost more than Glock mags, but they are a lot cheaper than say, HK45c mags and I'll add that HK has dropped pricing. They're in financial straits right now, and they need sales, as far as working on them, it's not that hard...If I can convert my HK45ct from a DA/SA pistol to LEM and back again myself, anyone could. it's probably no more difficult than tearing down a 1911..
Edited to add: A quick check over at CDNN shows us that they currently have USPc/P-2000 factory 13 rnd mags with flat floorplates for $19.99 each. If you want the mags with the finger rest those are $24.99 so, They're not too far away from Glock prices... One just has to shop around...

98% Sarcastic. 100% Overthinking things and making up reasons for buying a new firearm.
The $50 per mag was a generalization. That's my point that they are having money issues as they basically priced themselves into a market that many did not want to get into.
As for being as difficult as a 1911 to work on I'd lean towards the 1911 being more used friendly are fewer small screws, pieces, and springs (referring to a Series 70 type) It would be interesting to see how fast someone can take an HK from a bare frame to a working handgun....I did it with a WC CQB in 2 min 47 seconds with witnesses.
