    Aftermarket AK rails?

I have a Ronin handguard on my vepr, but some of the options like the krebs keymod, and the troy I just saw for the first time, look pretty good. Anyone have experience or feedback?

I can't speak for the Troy rails other than I don't particularly find them visually appealing. Have you looked into the Midwest Industries AK rails? Very solid & well made, not to mention they are an active sponsor of this site.

Personally... no, not at all. I'm not a fan of Troy rails. I can't speak for the build quality (or lack thereof) since I've never owned one. I just don't care for the appearance & circular holes and quite frankly, I think they're ugly.

But that's just me. Get what appeals to you. I just threw MI out there for another option for you to consider.

Damage industries makes some nice looking rails; I am in the same boat as you OP, I am kicking around some rails for when I buy a new AK.

I don't care much about looks, but my Alpha rail for my AR was pretty heavy. Check out the Midwest Industries options.

I would steer clear of Damage Industries. I had to modify the rail and drill detents into my gun in order for it to lock up anywhere near solid. However, being able to move the rail pieces where needed, the qd socket, and slim profile are what make it desirable.

Midwest Industries rails are solid, lockup great, but are a little on the bulky side. Another plus is removable top sections that accommodate a variety of optics, usually with cowitness if you're into that kind of thing.

Troy, if they're anything like my AR rail, is a little heavy, saved a bit the cheap side in terms of feel and install technique, etc. Yet, I like how they give you a cut out for the sling loop, kind of like the Russian Zenit rails.

If a extended rail isn't a requirement, the best combo has been my Bulgarian lower with a heat shield and the Ultimak. If you are just looking to mount a light and cowitness a micro with minimal bulk, look no further......

Krebs usually makes good stuff, you shouldn't have an issue. If you want to use your extra keymod accessories, this should fit the bill.

If you're going to add a railed handguard to an AK, go with original Russian Zenitco. http://legionusainc.com/saiga-12-par...tco-parts.html It isn't cheap, but it will stand up to hard use (should you be invading Ukraine any time soon). What do you want the rail for? If you want to put a sight on top or a laser, I would steer clear of any rail that mounts using the handguard retainer. Bolting to the barrel give you much more stability. If you're just putting a light, grip, sling, or something along those lines then it doesn't matter.

RMiller, what make and model did you mount the Battle Damage Industries rail on? I have one on my SLR106, and I didn't have any issues.
