Colorado Springs. A friend owns a large gun shop and I got a bro deal on the sport. He has them on special for $599. I got a little extra off.

You can find deals, just have to research. I picked up the 15T with the 1:8 barrel tax free, $100 military rebate for $700 at the local exchange. Although I don't shoot it as much, it has had zero issues after 3-4 thousand rounds.

The Sport is a solid option for anyone on a budget not looking for bells and whistles.
My neighbor that I shoot with has one with that barrel, and it is accurate with just about anything he puts through it. Worst group I seen him shoot was 1 1/2" at 100.

He never cleans the thing either, and hasn't had any issues.

No mention the barrel is chrome lined or even Melonite (may have missed it)...

I'd pay no more than $600 if that even for it nowadays...

I'd take about a half dozen other options under the $900 mark.

    The point isn't that it's a non mil-spec "sub-par" AR ... b/c we all know it is.

The point is, it's a very good option in among the "Sub-Par" category rifles. Rather than buying a PTAC or Bubba-The-Gun-Man special.

My dad got one a couple of years ago when Cabela's had a deal for club members that got them down to $499 + tax.

He got one with the 5R barrel to boot. I checked and everything we're told should be staked was and quite well to boot. It also has a mil-spec (size not sure of material) receiver extension. I thought it was quite a deal for $499.

Sadly I don't think he's shot it much.

I would not call the Sport "sub par". It is not mil spec but I knew that when I got it. I don't require mil spec/high speed low drag for this particular rifle and its intended purpose. I have other rifles that fill that role just fine.

I purchased one when they first came out years ago for ~500 and have put at least ~5000 rounds down range with it, I have yet to have a single hiccup or malfunction, the rifle has been flawless and works great for what I use it for
