Getting newest trainee up to speed.

A good 8 hrs at the range , covered NPOA , sight picture, breath control and trigger control. Tyler catches on quickly, worked a 1022 most of the day. Last hour of the day he got on an AR15. The target below was his best and last of the day done with xm193. We quit the day on a good note. He was shooting prone and used a 4X scope on both.

When should would be a good time to move him out to 100yds? He's really good at math, at what point should I introduce IMC?

He's 8 1/2, I've takin him shooting several times before but it was just plinking at swinging targets. Rifles had prep sights which didn't work so well for him. Put some scopes on and he really got focused, Tyler didn't want to wit at the end of the day.

    Nice groups.

If it were me I would have him watch a video such as the Trident Concepts Ballistics on youtube. Then next range session, talk him thru IMC and then dial in the gun for 100 and let him shoot it. Then reset the sights for 25 and have him try it again. When it doesnt hit where he wants it, help him do the come ups. When he gets hits again, the lesson will be set in memory. That would be an awesome day for steel targets.

And when he nails the math and gets it right, let him know he is better than a bunch of Army people. We teach IMC to 60 army guys a month, and, well, wow, they just don't get it.

Thanks for the tips U.S. Cav. I have been to several Appleseed shoots and used their handouts, they are based on WWII training and peep sights. But allot of it still applies today and I hope to add more and see his skills increase. It's such a joy to see him enjoy this activity and progress, just a great way to spend a Saturday with a son.

Very cool to see. I wish I would have been introduced to firearms at 8 years old
