    Would Jerry play with us like that? I think so...with a flat hold it is about 236 feet of drop. Most men can't hit a thousand yard shot with a sniper rifle. I will go ahead and raise the BS flag. He would not even be able to see that balloon or target at that range and the MOA would be a whopping 271. Can't believe it, I think he is pulling one over on us. The Legend of Jerry...he is good but not that good.

    You do realize that the angle would be approximately 4.5 degrees for 236 ft of drop at 3000 ft? Break out your trig.

    No doubt that Jerry did it. Perhaps his optic was dialed in to its highest elevation setting to assist with hold over. In reference only to long distance stunt shooting and not to Jerry's example, finding and using the right aiming point above the target is a big help. I never fired at targets beyond 300 yards but did use a highly accurate, long barrel .357, .41, or .44 mag. I was good but only good enough to shine Jerry's shoes or carry his luggage.

    This.. A very small amount of angle at that distance translates greatly at the other end. What an amazing shot. No doubt in my mind its real. Highly doubt he would post something that wasn't legit.

    I'd be the most shocked man on this forum if Jerry faked that shot. He simply doesn't have to fake anything, he's just that remarkable.

    I just plugged the 147 gr Hornady XTP on the JBM ballistics calculator, muzzle velocity 1040 fps.

    If the sight height is 1.4" (about right for a red dot mounted as shown), and the revolver is zeroed at 50 yds, the drop relative to line of sight at 1000 yds is about 222.1 feet = 74 yds. He mentions he is holding about 75-80 yds high, so everything is in the ballpark. This means you have to aim 7.4 yds high at 100 yds, a mere 7.4% slope.

    He can make the shot because he aims at an imaginary point obove the target, and someone (with VERY good optics) is probably calling where the bullets impact. With the red dot sight he can aim high and still see the target, the difficult part is "burning" the sight picture into your brain one the dope has been found, since there are no reference points in the background. Once the dope is found, it is a matter of firing enough rounds until one hits the target in the "beaten zone". Easier said than done, since the average group size at this distance most probably is in the order of 6+ feet (from a mechanical rest), larger than the metal targets, and a slight, impossible to detect, lateral wind of just 1.0 mph would move the POI about 17.3" to one side. The apex of the trajectory is about 77.8 feet above the ground, and normally wind blows harder above the ground level.

    The metal targets look about 24"x48", and this size is barely visible at this distance, but still good enough to give it a try

    AMAZING SHOT! And double action, nonetheless

    It doesn't count unless Jerry makes the hit with the first shot fired, out of a cold bore, and is facing into the sun.

    Why, I know a guy at the local gun store who can make that shot blindfolded! He told me this, and he seems like he really knows a lot about this kind of thing.

    Did you guys see that he never came close to hitting the balloon? He hit significantly low left and the bullet fragmentation pop the balloon. If we want to be more precise, then we should say he hit a large steel plate at 1000 yards....not a balloon.

    I'm not trying to poop on the fire....I just thought everyone else noticed that too, and yes, even hitting that steel plate at 1000 yards would be amazingly difficult....

    One more thing....how many shots (and filming re-takes) do you think it took him?

    It always amazes me that all these keyboard commandos have all these whizbang software programs to use to "discredit" actual shooters. It would be nice to see these people get out of their mom's basement and to the range for a change.

    I don't think Jerry would risk his reputation making a hoax. That shot is amazing and I'm sure there was a few practice runs at it.
