    Adhesive for Velcro

I just ordered some of the Esstac Shotgun side saddles for my 870. I wanted to ask what adhesive you guys use to put on your velcro to attach to the gun itself.

I just use the 2" wide "Industrial" adhesive backed Velcro and trim it to shape. It can be purchased in rolls or strips if you don't need much, is is easily cut with normal scissors, and is relatively inexpensive. I also like that it tends to fail slowly and by that I mean, it will start to lift here and there as the adhesive wears out but it doesn't give up all at once. I typically get about 2 years of use out of a piece.

I have found that if you round all the corners when you cut out the desired shape, it is far less likely to lift and curl over with use.

Use genuine Velcro brand self-adhesive loop with an acrylic adhesive. That stuff is rated for temps from -20 to over 220 F.

Give the side of the receiver a good wipe down with rubbing alcohol before applying, too. It will stick a lot better and last.
Life is full of choices. I choose Noveske.

This is what I use: http://www.itapestore.com/velcrotape...cadhesive.aspx

Just be sure it is where you want it before you let it touch the surface.

Rubbing alc is not good for degreasing - too much water. 99% isopropyl alc works very well and won't harm most plastics. Walgreens usually has it or can order it.

industrial strength Velcro found at Walmart works fine.

Be sure to clean and degrease properly prior to putting on the loop portion to the receiver.

Also, be sure to use a pair of scissors and round off the corners of the loop panel...this will help to keep the corners from peeling up.

I have not used the Walmart Velcro. Before I would I would want to make sure it uses the acrylic adhesive. Most of the sticky back Velcro uses a rubber based adhesive and it will turn into a gooey mess in a hot car.
