I am finally getting into the NFA world after procrastinating for years. For those thinking about it, but haven't done it yet, my honest observation at this early stage is...yes, there is a lot of paperwork up front to get going if you go the Trust route. But, I think that's a really good way to go. Yes, there are govt hoops to jump through. And yes, it is expensive. But if you seek out good advice, find good folks to work with, are patient, and willing to part with your hard earned money, you can get it done.
Here are some of the good folks who have either provided good service along the way, or helped out:
Jim at myguntrust.com - Jim is in Austin, TX and has been a real pleasure to work with. He set up a Trust for my family, and while it was more expensive than an online fill-it-out-yourself form, I feel it was well worth it. I have a good friend who went the cheaper route and I now know he made quite a few mistakes that could be problematic. Plus, with Jim you can call or email him and he'll provide a quick answer. I can't recommend him enough.
Ident Marking Services - For SBR engraving. Great job, looks nice, price was right. Even better, if you are in the Dallas area you can go there in person on Tuesday or Thursday nights and they'll engrave your lower while you wait.
BigWaylon - I got a lot of good info off this NFA forum, but thanks much to BigWaylon for his step-by-step guide to filing an eFile form 1. Of course, a govt web form wasn't as easy to maneuver as I had hoped...so I'm glad BigWaylon provided all the steps to make it happen. Thank you!
SilencerShop - Makes buying a suppressor easy...Too easy
Capitol Armory - Gun shop out of Austin, TX. Fast, reliable service at good prices.
I'm a big believer in, if someone provides good service you should recognize them for it. So here I am recognizing these good folks.
