I've been wanting to gunkote some parts of one of my rifles and I definitely don't want to put it in my oven I use for food. I was thinking a cheap toaster oven would be the best bet as long as it got above the required curing temp...?

I guess you have never seen metal in a microwave oven before?

If you've see what metal does in a microwave, you should try a can of aerosol paint!

I originally meant toaster over, not microwave oven... the post is fixed now.

ive done baking laquer in my oven a couple of times. i dont worry about any residue, just make sure you have good ventilation. its not like your dripping the paint into the inside of the oven.

it does smell a bit while curing so dont blame me if you have a wife or gf and she kicks your ass.

Does the smell linger? I'm glad I saw this.was just about to do a DIY cerakote job, in my old lady's kitchen......

Sending it to a pro might be the best money I ever spent if it's going to piss her off

just make sure she aint home for a couple of hours. i dont know about ceracoat but the brownells baking laquer stopped smelling after being in the oven for about 40 mins and after that there was no smell that i could detect. had a window open with a fan in it though as an exhaust.

Simple answer to the OP... Buy an oven big enough or build your own... By the way.. you bake not back them.

My buddy built his oven. You'll want it to be tall so that the rifles can hang.
