The low-budget Chinese copy of the Remington 870. Kind of depressing to see that it surpasses the 870 Express in some respects:

Overall I've heard good things about them. There was a thread on here about them a few years ago which convinced me to buy one. For some reason the action on mine is pretty stiff. I've gone through and cleaned all the grease or cosmoline or whatever they used to protect it from rusting out and even spend considerable time hitting parts with sandpaper and rubbing compound. It had gotten much better but it's still a long ways from how smooth a Mossberg or Remington is out of the box.
it feels very solid and I've shot it a fair amount. I've had one spent shell get stuck in the chamber that I had to mortar out, but it was cheap wal-mart birdshot so who knows what the actual cause was. Didn't see anything abnormal with the case and the gun went through another 15 or 20 rounds without issue.
I don't know what they go for these days but when I got mine they were right at $200 and the Mossberg and Remington offerings with GRS were around $500 and not very common, so that was (and still is) the only selling point to me. One of these days I'll get a 590 with ghost rings and I don't know what I'll do with the 982.
As far as I know the only parts that won't interchange with an 870 are barrels and that's only because the tube is longer on a 982 than an 870. I have seen people use a spacer to adapt an 870 barrel to the 982. Also because the tube in longer 870 +2 mag extensions stick out past the barrel, but they thread on. +1 extensions work fine as do all other 870 accessories and parts I'm pretty sure.
I don't collect guns, I accumulate them
What are some sling options for these? I noticed that the stock is already threaded for a swivel but the mag tube doesn't seem to have any provisions for an attachment.
Loving my 982 so far!
We had some of these in Africa on an anti-piracy thing I did. They were pieces of shit and one of them had a broken shell latch.

I ended up not being able to find a hawk but picked up a h&r pardner pump for 150 bucks used on local gun forum.. I mainly did it to see if the internet rumors were true about parts exchange ability was true or not.

I've got a Hawk that's several years old now. I picked up an H&R Pardner, which is the same gun, about a year ago. Both have been very good shotguns, though the newer one has only a few hundred shells through it. I recommend them all the time, and no one has ever regretted buying one that I'm aware of.
