I believe it is the output with the only difference being the locking mechanism. I should have a new one in a few days to compare.

I received one of the new revised model Inforce APL lights from these guys about a month ago. http://www.impactweaponscomponents.c...and-momentary/
The light has stayed securely mounted to the pistol through around 400 rds and the light output (200 lumens) has stayed the same, with no discernible battery drain.
Also FYI, BlackPoint Tactical http://www.blackpointtactical.com make many brands of light mounted holsters for the Inforce APL light.

Does anyone know if a first gen apl can be sent into inforce to get the updated mounting hardware/locking mechanism installed? Or does the light have to have damages/issues to get the updated hardware?

I sent mine in for exchange, and received a new version a few weeks ago. I was having the battery drain issue, and they replaced it with no questions asked.

It has 50 more lumens than the Surefire X300 and X400 lights and 300 less lumens than the Surefire X300U and X400U Ultra lights. Here are some links to some reviews of the Inforce APL light.

So how are the revised models holding up? Are all the previous issues sorted out?
If you can't win a gun fight against a lightly-trained individual during broad daylight with 88 rounds of 30-06, I'm not sure you'd be able to do it with... any other firearm.

Ok, I've got an El Camino full of rampage here, so what's the plan?

Just wanted to say kudos to Emissive Energy/Inforce for excellent customer support. I mailed them my older APL along with a note two weeks ago and received a brand new in the package revised APL today. I never had any rail clamp issues with the old one but when I switched guns it felt much looser on the new set up. I didn't want to deal with any potential mishaps in the field. They are good to go in my book.

Ran my new APL Gen 2 today on a G17 and G41 for SEVERAL hundred rounds... stayed put and tight. So far loving this and my WMLx 500 Lumen.
